Park hits environmental targets

Posted on Friday, 04 December 2009 12:22PM by Matlock Mercury
TOUGH environmental targets have helped the national park authority to reduce its carbon footprint by nine per cent in the last year.

The Peak District National Park Authority's 2008/09 environmental management report revealed the authority produced 89 less tonnes of carbon, eight tonnes less waste and 48 tonnes less gas in its buildings.

Matt Freestone, the park authority’s Environmental management officer said: "It's no small task measuring the environmental impacts of an organisation like ours, but we have begun to make real progress in reducing our energy consumption through implementing some simple low cost measures and using what we have more efficiently."
